In 1986, Geoff Hardy, 5th generation descendant of the Australian wine industry pioneer, Thomas Hardy, found the ideal site for growing outstanding cool climate grapes in the Kuitpo region of the Adelaide Hills. The vineyard became known as K1, as this unique, ground breaking site was the first vineyard in the Kuitpo region.

Tin Shed Distilling Co

The story of the distillery is unconventional.  Normally distillery owners start with a large tub of money and slowly turn that into warehouses full of whisky.  In the case of Tin Shed, there was no large tub of money.  The construction and production was initially funded by Vic and Ian working in their trades, Vic as a postie and Ian as a flagpole maker.  For the first five years the distillery was located in a corner of the flagpole factory.  It is only in the last year or two that the flagpoles have been moved out and the distillery expanded.  To the uninitiated the distillery is still disguised as a flagpole factory! Along the way Tin Shed has picked up three Icons of Whisky Awards, a best-in-class World Whisky Award, a couple of World Whisky Awards gold medals, Australian medals of all colours and Liquid Gold ratings in The Whisky Bible as well as Best Australian and Best Southern Hemisphere Whisky.It is not Vic or Ian’s intention to flood world markets with oceans of beige whisky.  Instead, Iniquity aims to hand craft a family of small batches of passionate, interesting malts with personality and individual character.  This family of fallen angels are like brothers; alike, but different.Their passion at Tin Shed Distilling Co is to produce malts that they will want to drink.  Vic and Ian invite you to share their passion and drop in at their new distillery located at Nairne in the Adelaide Hills and find out if you like the same whiskies they do.

Our take on brewing German-style bier is very different to other styles of beer. Using high-quality ingredients and a detailed long brewing process resulted in ‘Das Beste Bier’. The talented team at Hahndorf Brewing Co brews traditional German-style bier under the Reinheitsgebot purity law which is said to be the oldest, still-enforced food regulation in the world. The Purity law requires that “nothing other than barley, hops, and water” be used to produce beer. The Brewhouse offers a core range of biers that include Helles (Bright) lager, ‘Hefe’ Hefeweizen and Dunkel.

Tilbrook Estate

Established in 1998, our first real vintage was 2002. We opened our first cellar door in Lobethal's Woollen Mills in 2003 and after 15 years there moved to our vineyard, where we were building a new cellar door. In late December 2019 we were one of the worst hit vineyards in the Cudlee Creek bushfire, and we also lost our winery. The latter was more devastating for the first year because we had no wine to sell. But we had a lot of volunteers come and help, tradespeople offered their time for free, and the wine community were amazing. Out of all this generosity our "hope!" wine range was born. At the moment we are steadily working towards having back our Estate wines, which are either grown by us, made by us or bottled by us.
As well as our wine we want to promote our cellar door and food. We are passionate about the environment, renewable energy and sustainable building design and materials. Our cellar door is South Australia's first “new build” zero net carbon cellar door! The building is all electric, except a wood heater for ambience in Winter. All our power during the day is generated from our 12.2 kW Tindo/ SolarEdge PV system, plus we export three times what we need, which brings our “build” carbon down to zero. During the night and cloudy days our power is supplied exclusively from “green” power from Adelaide based IO Energy – biogas, wind, and solar.We have a Scandi style design inside and outside magnificent views of the upper Onkaparinga Valley. Overlooking pastures, orchards, bush blocks and vineyards, we are often joined by kangaroos in the late afternoon, yellow tailed black cockatoos, wedge tailed eagles, hawks, and other native birds.

Amber Kemp has always had a passion for flowers and in late 2018 she turned it into a small floristry business specialising in fresh Christmas wreaths & centrepieces. Then in 2022, along with her husband Matt, she opened a café in Hahndorf - Roots & Reasons. This venue was the perfect place to support her now-growing floristry business – Foliage by Amber.  Amber’s floristry style is based on textures and seasonal blooms. She creates arrangements that feature locally grown and foraged flowers, foliage, and other textural elements like nuts & seeds. Amber does flowers for all occasions: weddings, engagements, birthday celebrations and just because.

Visit Karkoo, a family owned grower direct nursery outlet with a store in Blackwood and Oakbank.
Our flagship Oakbank store is set amongst the lovely buildings of the Historic Johnston Brewery (circa 1843), in the picturesque Adelaide Hills, only a short 10 minute drive from Hahndorf and 35 minutes from the CBD. Here you’ll find our vast nursery filled with fantastic value plants, pots, garden art and more. Have a wander through our home/gift store, indoor plant room and clothing boutique set in one of the old barns and enjoy a drink and bite to eat from our licensed Garden Café - once the horse stables of the historic brewery.
Be sure to give yourself time as there is plenty to do, eat, drink and discover when you visit Karkoo, one of South Australias premier tourism destinations - we are pet friendly too!

Karkoo is open from 10-4pm daily at 18 Oakwood Road, Oakbank and 9-5pm Monday to Saturday and 10-4pm Sunday at 207 Main Road, Blackwood (Karkoo Kitchen only at our flagship Oakbank destination)
